Cody Stewart
Washington, D.C. Advocate

Cody works in Policy Communications’ Washington, D.C. office. He began his career on Capitol Hill as the Communications Coordinator for the House Committee on Resources. In that role he was responsible for preparing briefing papers, press releases, and providing bill summaries to House Leadership on all the bills passed out of by the Resources Committee.

In 2001, Cody was hired as a legislative assistant in the office of Congressman Chris Cannon (UT-03). Congressman Cannon is a senior Member of the House Committee on Government Reform, House Resources Committee, and the House Judiciary Committee. As legislative assistant, Cody specialized in energy, public lands, environment, tax, budget, military, and health care issues for Congressman Cannon.

Cody was hired as the Executive Director of the Congressional Western Caucus in early 2003. The Congressional Western Caucus is a group of nearly sixty western and rural members of Congress dedicated to sustaining a vibrant western economy while enhancing the unique environment and values of the west. Under his tenure as Executive Director of the Caucus, Cody directed and coordinated caucus efforts to protect private property, strengthen local control and federalism, and to increase energy independence.

Cody was born and raised in Utah. He graduated from Utah State University where he received bachelor’s degrees in both History and Political Science. Cody is finishing a Masters degree in Government from John’s Hopkins University. He resides in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife, Mary, and their two children.
